Hey Everyone. Remember, our meeting this month will be a week early AND a half hour early. So . . . we’ll see you Tuesday, December 19th at 6:30 pm. This will be our Annual Christmas Potluck and gift exchange — so bring that favorite dish and one gift to exchange.
On July 29th (Saturday) we will be having our scrap quilt workshop. The design we voted on was Trail Mix. Here is the link to the pattern:
Download the pattern, print it out and get your fabric baggies labeled and put some scraps laying around your sewing area in them. Seriously, this quilt is a great way to clean up that ever rising stash of small scraps that you just hate to part with.
It’s time for our annual summer salad and dessert potluck – come, visit, relax and enjoy some great food. With the whirlwind of finishing up quilts for the show, we could all use a night of social interaction with those that share our passion. Come early, if you please, and help set up and get the potluck rolling. Besides our dinner, we are going to have a brief presentation by Sherry Klepfer, who is the local chapter coordinator for Linus Project in Iredell County.
Our program for June is a relaxing, sit back, let the profusion of color and design delight your creative juices as Pineapple Fabrics indulges us with their options. Pineapple Fabrics is a family owned company quite close to us in Archdale, NC. They specialize in precut and packaging color sets sing five fabrics to begin that journey of less stress in designing your project as well as saving you time and energy. Come enjoy the presentation of how their company was started and how they have expanded into the quilting market to make an impact!

Lake Norman Quilt Guild Workshop
Modern with Applique
Kathleen Baden is coming to LNQG on Wed, May 24th to teach a workshop on Modern Quilts with Applique. We are going to make the quilt shown on the cover of her book (shown below). In the workshop she will discuss prepping the background for the “fishy” quilt and then she will teach freezer paper method of applique as well as other forms of applique.
Near the end of the workshop, Kathleen will discuss and demonstrate big stitch hand quilting. Check out her website, www.kbquilts.com to see a marvelous example of her work on the modern improve quilt.
This is a unique opportunity to stretch your quilting boundaries into modern as well as hand stitching with a darling quilt that measures approx. 35” X 40”. However, this sweet “fishy” quilt can be machine appliqued/quilted or hand done as Kathleen has samples of both.
Supply list for the workshop
The Modern Baby: Easy, Fresh and Fun Quilt Designs book. Get on Amazon or she can bring copies to sell.
One yard of background fabric – she will bring her background, Caribbean blue, for $7 a yard or bring your own.
Scraps of fabric for the bubbles (15), no need to worry about the fish yet.
Paper scissors, fabric scissors and a portable light, if needed. Also if you have a small travel iron or Clover iron, that would be great. Kathleen will supply the freezer paper templates, applique needles, hand quilting needles and silk thread.
The workshop starts at 9am on Wed. the 24th. The workshop is $25 for members of the LNQG. Please email Deb Waldron, firstname.lastname@example.org to sign up or if you have any questions.
