Spring has sprung!

Spring has sprung in the guild and tonight’s meeting will have plenty of show and tell!

Our first quilts of the UFO Challenge will be due to be shown tonight!

We’ll also have a program on paper piecing which is hands-on, so if you’re interested in seeing lots of eye candy to start your spring off with ideas, or want to know a little more about paper piecing come on to tonight’s meetings.

Visitors are always welcome! We meet at 7pm (door open at 6:30) at Centre Presbyterian Church in Mooresville, NC.

Hope to see you there!!!

A new year and many new activities!

Tonight the guild had it’s first 2023 meeting. Our January meeting is typically a Business Meeting where plans are set forth for the year. This year it included a pot luck dinner as well and lots of laughter and fun was had.

One of our year long projects is a UFO Challenge Fundraiser. Members who chose to play have turned in their UFO lists and the first number was called tonight.

UFO Project #2 is due by the March meeting, quilted and bound. The co-ordinator has stated that labels aren’t required to be considered finished. I know I breathed a sigh of relief when that number was called as it’s a project I truly believe I can complete on time!!!!!!

Our next meeting will be on February 28th, hope to see you there!

Challenge Pincushions coming due!

Just a quick reminder to members that your first challenge of the year (pincushions!) are due at the upcoming May 24th meeting. I can’t wait to see how everyone interpreted this challenge. And if you’re inclined to bring extras to donate to our fall sales event, that would be great.

This meeting will be a social event. We’ll be playing “Quilters Strip Poker” with 2-1/2″ fabric strips. Each member is requested to bring 10 strips.

Looking forward to an enjoyable evening of quilts, camaraderie, and fun! See you at the meeting!

Challenge #1 of 2022

As I referred to last night, we will have two challenges in 2022. Our first challenge was presented to guild members last night, and is due for the May 24th meeting.

And that challenge is to create a PINCUSHION.

The concept is simple, make a pin cushion, bring it to the May meeting. Your pin cushion can be as simple or complicated as you desire. It can be fully intended to be functional, or it can be totally an artistic outlet.

For every pin cushion entered, the entrant will receive 1 entry into a prize drawing.  Pin cushions will be available for member viewing during the break time of the meeting.  And there will be a multiple vote voting (as in more than just viewers choice).

Why pincushions? Well, they’re fun! And as quilters we can all use them, or admire them.

What to do with your pincushion?  Well, you can keep it for yourself.  Or, if when in the future we have a show that has a boutique and if you’re so inclined, you can donate it to that.  Or, you can keep it for any upcoming gift exchanges (like our Christmas gift exchange or a Secret Pal gift).  The options are many.

Last night I showed two reference books that I personally have in my library. One is Pin Pals by Carrie Nelson, a great reference with patterns for patchwork pincushions. The other is Pincushions for Every Occasion by Carmen Daumer, full of very artistic creative options to get your thoughts going (and it also has patterns). Or perhaps you have a pincushion pattern created by a designer you want to use.

Challenge: Pincushion

Due Date: May 24th meeting

So, I hope everyone has fun with this challenge and I can’t wait to see everyone’s pincushions in May.

July 2021 Meeting

We had a wonderful Presentation about coloring on fabric Given to us by Carol Harris who is a member of the Cabarrus Quilt guild, we even had some fabric we could try out her techniques on our own. We used Crayons and colored pencils – no reason to buy super expensive ones. It was a really fun meeting and we learned how to add a little pizazz to our pieces useing easy to attain items.

Thanks Carol for a wonderful presentation!

Next Month we have Cindy From Quilters Gallery coming to do a trunk show and a workshop on Saturday which should be great as always!

SOON!!!!!!

We’ve all been waiting for a return to in-person meetings and they’re coming soon! Currently the plan is to return to in-person meetings in May at our normal location. We may be able (weather depending) on having an April in person meeting. We’re discussing doing a parking lot meeting, but that is not yet finalized.

In the meantime, we are still doing our zoom meetings, Jill our President sends out the e-mail invite to guild members in the week before the meeting so you have your log in information.

And we have our Facebook page Lake Norman Quilters where we post and keep connected as well.

I’m looking forward to seeing everyone IN PERSON later this spring and returning to meetings!!!!!!

In the meantime, keep quilting, let’s have LOTS of Show and Tell when we get back together!

2020 Update

What a year it’s been. I’m sure by now that we’re all missing our monthly guild meetings. Since I wasn’t able to attend the February meeting, it seems like forever to me!

But rest assured, your Executive Board is working on a way to keep us connected during these times.

We do have our Facebook group for those on facebook. (Lake Norman Quilters).

In an email to the guild earlier, it was mentioned that we could connect via Zoom meetings. If you’re interested in that, contact Marian.

The guild has also discussed socially distant parking lot get togethers in the lower parking lot of the church we use for meetings. We’ll keep you posted on that.

We are in search of a newsletter editor, contact Jill if you’re interested. Currently we use a specific software for the newsletter, but if you have a software you prefer (I use Word and save as PDF when I publish stuff) there is no requirement you use the software the prior editor used.

In projects, we still have our 2020 Finish It Up challenge. I plan to accept entries through June 30, 2020 so e-mail me your finishes. Also our Paint Chip Challenge is still on with a fall deadline. I can’t wait to see everyone’s!

But most importantly, stay safe! We (speaking on behalf of the executive board) miss seeing everyone’s smiling faces and what we’re all working on.

Happy Sewing,

Judy Whitehead
